Sexual Health Projects



The aim of the project is to reduce the transmission of HIV/AIDS and other blood borne viruses (BBV) and sexually transmitted infections (STI) among young people in NSW who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Objectives of the Sexual Health Project

•       To increase knowledge and awareness of HIV/AIDS, blood born viruses (BBV) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), among homeless or at risk young people, through the provision of health promotion resources that are youth friendly.

•       To increase young people’s self-efficacy? and self-determination in regards to safer injection drug use (IDU) behaviours / practices. 

•       To improve the health status of young people who are homeless through provision of an advocacy role regarding issues of homelessness, blood borne viruses and sexual health.
 
•       To increase the motivation and capacity of those working with homeless and at-risk young people to provide education on blood borne viruses and sexual health through the provision appropriate conversation strategies and of youth friendly sexual health resources.
 
•       To increase young people’s access to information and education on blood borne viruses, sexual health, safer sex and injection drug use materials through encouraging and assisting services accessed by young people who are homeless to develop “best practice” policies regarding blood borne viruses, sexual health and harm minimisation practices.
 
•       To promote community involvement in the promotion of sexual health, prevention to blood borne viruses and harm minimisation 
 

•       To Build & strengthen the links between youth workers & youth health services within their local areas
